In addition to some of our usual activities, this month we have scheduled trips to the Alaska Botanical Garden and the Alaska Law Enforcement Museum. The Botanical Garden asks for a donation of $5.00 ($3.00 if you are 60 or older). The Alaska Law Enforcement Museum is free.
We also have Music in the Park on Fridays. Bring a lunch or purchase one downtown, then sit back and enjoy free musical acts from noon to 1:00pm. Speaking of sitting, bring a chair of some kind if you do not want to sit on the ground. There is a cement wall to sit on for those who arrive early.
The Anchorage Downtown Partnership has scheduled the following acts;
| July 11th | 9th Army Band – Jammin’ Salmon Dixie Band |
| July 18th | Robin Hopper – Folk music |
| July 25th | Derry Aires – female A Capella group |
| August 1st | Galway Days Band – Irish music |
In case of inclement weather, we will have Game Day back at our senior center. Let us hope the summer weather is nice and warm.
I want to remind the van riders, but this applies to everyone.
Please wear your seatbelts and keep them buckled and snug at all times.
If you do not tighten your seatbelt the forward momentum within those extra few inches of loose seatbelt are going to hurt when you come to an abrupt stop when the slack runs out during a crash or sudden stop.
If you are in a private vehicle you can be flung into an airbag as it deploys and throws you back. Airbags deploy extremely fast with a lot of force, so never carry anything in your lap that you do not want crushed between you and the airbag.
Have you ever seen people driving around with a pet in their lap, or a passenger with their feet up on the dashboard? Just imagine what would happen in those situations. Here is a thought for those of you who do not like wearing a seatbelt. You may not care if you are thrown around during a crash, but the rest of us riding with you do not want to be hit by your body as it bounces around inside the vehicle. So let’s all be safe and wear our seat belts!
